Get started
Open KVM Remote and choose Add Device. Enter the device’s address as you would type it into a browser, then the username and password you use for its web interface. If your GL.iNet device has two-factor authentication turned on, enter the current code when asked. Choose Remember this password to keep the password in Apple’s Keychain; otherwise the app asks each time.
Grant Local Network access when your iPhone, iPad or Mac asks for it. Without it the app cannot reach a device on the same network. You can change this later in System Settings.
The console shows no picture
The status line reports control and video separately. No HDMI signal means the KVM sees nothing on its HDMI input: the target is off, asleep, or connected to another output. Use Wake Computer or Console → Recovery to send a brief Shift press or a small mouse movement. Not live means a picture was received but has since stalled; the app retries the video twice on its own, and Restart Video Stream starts a fresh attempt without dropping the control connection.
If video never arrives, open the statistics overlay from the console toolbar. A codec and resolution with zero frames points at the network path; no codec at all points at the device’s streamer settings.
Text looks soft
Choose the Sharp Text preset on a GL.iNet device. It keeps the encoder in normal mode so static screens are not softened to save bandwidth. If the overlay reports resampled scaling, use Pixel Perfect to size the window so one source pixel maps to one screen pixel. Keyboard shortcuts go to my Mac instead of the target
On macOS, the console’s Keyboard menu chooses where keys go. Local keeps everything on your Mac. Send App Shortcuts passes typing and Command shortcuts to the target. Capture System Shortcuts also intercepts Spaces, Spotlight and app switching, and needs Accessibility permission. Use the shortcut bar or Send Special Keys for chords such as Control–Alt–Delete. The mouse is offset or ignored in the BIOS
Some firmware and virtual machines mishandle absolute pointers. Switch the pointer to relative mode in Device Settings → Keyboard & Pointer. On iPhone and iPad, Trackpad mode moves the cursor relatively so your finger never covers the target.
Certificate changed
KVM devices ship self-signed certificates, so KVM Remote pins the certificate it sees on first connection and refuses to connect if it later changes. That should only happen after a factory reset or reflash. If it does, open Settings → Security and choose Forget Pinned Certificate, then connect again.
Pasting text
A hardware KVM has no clipboard channel to the target. Paste Clipboard types your clipboard text as keystrokes using the target keyboard layout you chose for the device. Use Paste Slowly for BIOS screens and login prompts that drop fast input. Multiline text is previewed with a line count before it is sent, and Stop Paste halts anything not yet sent.
Diagnostics
The stethoscope icon in the device list opens the log viewer, which works whether or not a connection succeeded. Test Connection checks each layer and names the one that failed. Diagnostics → Export produces a redacted snapshot you can attach to a report. Review it for device names before sharing.
